EPPD: Homeless woman charged after dog found dead in burnt shopping cart

Police arrested a homeless woman who they suspect was responsible for the death of a dog found in a burning shopping cart.

Lori Jean Pollard, 38, allegedly placed a candle in the shopping cart to keep the dog warm and flammables located in the cart caught fire and resulted in the dog’s death.

Detectives with the Animal Cruelty Unit responded to a call on the 1500 block of George Dieter after witnesses found the burning shopping cart.

The witnesses extinguished the flames and found the dog dead in the shopping cart, police said.

Pollard was booked into the El Police Detention Facility with a bond of $8,500.
