Outpouring of support for stray Vado dog with head trapped in jar
Dozens of volunteers have taken to dirt roads with flashlights in Vado on Monday night and early Tuesday morning to search for a stray dog with his head stuck in a plastic jar, as reported by ABC-7 this week.
“The phones have been ringing off the hook,” said Frank Bryce, president of the Southern New Mexico Humane Society. “It’s absolutely amazing.”
In the past, the stray dog has returned to a house on Coors Road where the owner has been known to leave scraps, however, he ran away when approached by neighbors on Monday.
Dozens of volunteers have reached out to the Southern New Mexico Humane Society and ABC-7.
“The phone have been ringing off the hook,” Bryce said, adding she had even been contacted by PETA.
“They said they had heard about the story and were offering some funding and to contact some volunteers to help us,” Bryce said.
If you do choose to help, there are a number of volunteers in the area searching as of Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. Call the Southern New Mexico Humane Society at 575-647-1416.
“Hopefully, we’ll have enough warm bodies down there to spot the dog and circle it and help it,” Bryce said.
