Border Patrol seizes 5.2 pounds of cocaine hidden in truck

U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized 5.2 pounds of cocaine Thursday that was allegedly hidden in an apparent oil pan.

The seizure occurred at the Presidio port of entry in Texas, where Border Patrol agents conducted an x-ray scan of a 2002 Ford pick-up truck with a single driver. The scan helped spot anomalies in the appearance of an oil pan, where two cocaine-filled bundles were hidden inside, according to Border Patrol.

“This drug load was deeply concealed in a non-factory compartment,” U.S. Customs Presidio Port Director Michael Neipert said. “I commend our officers for working hard to locate this contraband.”

Border Patrol agents took a 52-year-old Mexican male into custody. He was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to face charges associated with the failed drug smuggling attempt.
