TRAFFIC ALERT: A 27-hour closure on part of I-10 to start Sunday
A 27-hour complete closure of Interstate 10 is planned to start on Sunday.
Westbound lanes on I-10 from Resler Drive to Mesa Street will be closed from 3 a.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jennifer Wright said the bulk of construction is scheduled to happen near Mesa Street.
“We’re going to be shifting the westbound traffic onto the center bridge, so that we can demolish and rebuild the westbound bridge,” said Wright.
New traffic lanes will be moved onto the temporary to divert the flow of traffic while the I-10 westbound overpass is being constructed (pictured in the photo attached to this article).
Both directions of traffic on Mesa Street will be blocked, however, TxDOT said most entrance and exit ramps will be open with the exception of the I-10 west exit ramp at Mesa.
Farther east, the Sunland Park Drive entrance ramp to I-10 west will be closed.
All of these projects are part of the Go10 Project, which Wright said is on schedule.
“We expect that the bulk of that job will be completed by the end of this year”,said Wright. “There will probably be some additional paving, landscaping, some connections remain to be made by the end of the year. I should knock on wood at this point because we like to under-promise and over-deliver.”
