ABC-7 news anchor Estela Casas is “feeling better every day” after undergoing double mastectomy
ABC-7 news anchor Estela Casas is “feeling better every day” after undergoing a double mastectomy.
Casas, who has been battling breast cancer since September, and is another step closer to becoming cancer free, is recovering after going through the procedure Feb. 22.
Co-anchor Rick Cabrera spoke with her this week via Skype to see how she was doing. She thanked everyone, including the viewers, for all their support, and said she’s using her faith to stay positive.
“The community has been great. I get flowers, and I get food delivered to my house, I get emails and most importantly, prayers from total strangers,” Casas said. “There is a power in prayer and it’s obviously paid off because God has listened to all of this. But I think a positive attitude is very very important.”
When asked why she seemed so chipper, Casas said she was still in some pain, but overall is feeling very good.
“I was always very much afraid when I got the diagnosis. But, what else could I do but turn it over to Him, and He took care of me,” Casas said. “He’s still taking care of me, because the process is certainly not over.”
Casas remains optimistic, but is realistic about the time she will need to heal. She will be away from the anchor desk for about four weeks.
Several weeks ago, before undergoing surgery, Casas wanted to relay this to all her supporters who have been following her on her cancer journey: “I am humbled and blessed for all your prayers and well wishes. I am forever grateful to God, family, friends and those of you who have been walking alongside me through this difficult journey. Keep me and others on their cancer journey in your prayers.”
