Middle school teen accused of threatening school

A middle school student was arrested, accused of spreading a threat that someone was going to shoot up the school.

El Paso County Sheriff’s officials are only identifying the student as a girl, 14, from Garcia Enriquez Middle School.

Officials said the incident happened on Feb. 17 and came in as an anonymous cell phone message to students at that school who were attending a UIL academic competition in Horizon City. The message said someone was going to shoot up the school.

Sheriff’s officials said that the message stirred up so much fear for the students’ safety, the competition was canceled.

After an investigation by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, deputies charged the 14-year-old with terroristic threat (fear of imminent serious bodily injury), which is a Class B Misdemeanor.

Officials said it has been referred to the County Attorney’s Office.
