New downtown mural showcases local Iconic Latinos

From Mexican wrestlers to Latino musicians, a new downtown mural is shining light on a few iconic local Latinos.

The Downtown Management District held a mural dedication ceremony Wednesday morning to unveil the mural.

Sin Cara is a professional WWE wrestler, born and raised in the Borderland. Wrestling fans will now be able to see his picture along with other local Latino icons on a new mural right outside the Roderick Artspace lofts in downtown El Paso.

“Me, being a kid growing up back in the day in the Segundo Barrio, it was a little tough. My dream was always to become a professional wrestler. That’s all I wanted to do. When they told me about the project, I was very excited,” Sin Cara told ABC-7.

Jesus “Cimi” Alvarado was the lead artist on the project. He, along with Martin “Blaster” Zubia and Victor “Mask” Casas, spent three months painting the mural.

“We were just trying to capture the arts in El Paso. You know like, representing our community, our city and what people can do if they push themselves to do it,” said Casas.

The mural features local icons such as Abraham Chavez and Rosa Guerrero. CLICK HERE for a full look at the mural.
