Rhinos crush OKC, 9-1, to win divisional finals
The El Paso Rhinos scored eight goals in the first two periods and easily defeated the Oklahoma City Blazers, 9-1, Saturday night to complete a two-game sweep in the WSHL Midwest Division Finals.
Chaseton Sare recorded a hat trick on the evening with two of his goals coming in the second period. The Rhinos tallied five of their nine goals in the decisive second.
The scoreline proved to be much more comfortable for fans than Friday’s game one in which the Rhinos held on for a 3-2 victory.
The Rhinos won seven of the eight contests against OKC this year, with the lone loss coming on the road in overtime on Jan. 12.
The team can now turn its full attention to the Thorne Cup Championship Tournament later this month.
El Paso is actually hosting that event for the third time. The tournament will run from April 11-15.
The Rhinos have won the Thorne Cup twice in their history – 2008 and 2014.
