Man charged with capital murder in Houston motel slaying

Houston police say a suspect has been arrested in last month’s fatal shooting of a man at a motel in an attack that also left two women wounded.

Harris County court records show 28-year-old Cortney Antrell Byrd of Houston was being held without bond Thursday on a capital murder charge. Online records didn’t immediately list an attorney to speak for Byrd, who was arrested Wednesday.

The triple shooting happened just before dawn on March 1. Investigators didn’t immediately release a possible motive for the gunfire or what led them to Byrd.

Police say 29-year-old Marqueis Deshawn Rutherford answered a knock at the door and was shot. He died at the scene. Two women also inside the room were wounded and transported in stable condition to a hospital.
