El Paso Chihuahuas win season opener

The El Paso Chihuahuas beat the Las Vegas 51s 4-2 Thursday night at Cashman Field in Las Vegas.

According to team leaders, that advanced the Chihuahuas’ all-time opening day record to 4-1.

According to stats from the team:

– Eric Lauer pitched six innings and got the win in his Triple-A debut. El Paso relievers Buddy Baumann, Kyle Lloyd and Jonathan Aro combined on three scoreless innings without allowing a hit.

– El Paso’s top two hitters in the batting order, Travis Jankowski and Luis Urias, reached base six times in 10 combined plate appearances. Franmil Reyes went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in his Triple-A debut, while Javy Guerra hit an opposite field solo home run in his first Triple-A game.

– The Chihuahuas had their leadoff batter reach base in six of nine innings Thursday. El Paso went 2-for-2 pinch-hitting, with both Diego Goris and Shane Peterson picking up singles.

The Chihuahuas play Friday in Las Vegas. The team holds its home opener on April 10 with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
