Vado man arrested for allegedly setting mobile homes on fire

Doña Ana County Sheriffs arrested a man who allegedly set two mobile homes on fire Monday in Vado.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by ABC-7’s New Mexico Mobile Newsroom, 35-year-old David Meza set fire to mobile homes that previously belonged to his late grandparents.

Meza allegedly told investigators his uncle became the owner of the properties after his grandparents death and that he was kicked out of the properties by his uncle.

Meza says his uncle tricked their family into gaining custody of the properties, according to a criminal compliant.

Deputies say Meza was walking through the scene of the fire when investigators arrived at the properties. Meza allegedly ran from the scene when he was approached by deputies.

Sheriffs caught Meza and apprehended him at 43 Fuentes Lane.

Investigators say Meza sent a series of messages to his mother that made references to fire.
