Soccer Playoffs: Montwood tops Socorro; Bowie also advances

Two more local boys high school soccer teams advanced to the Sweet 16 Friday.

Montwood defeated Socorro at the SAC by a final of 1-0 to set up a regional semifinal showdown with Irving on April 13.

The Rams finally broke through in the second half on a beautiful strike from Josh Delira that just snuck past the keeper and sent his team on to the next round.

Montwood is the only local team alive in 6A after Eastwood fell 4-2 against Wolfforth Frenship Friday in a game that went to extra time.

Meanwhile, Bowie advanced to the Sweet 16 in Class 5A with a 2-1 victory over Amarillo Caprock.

The Bears join Del Valle in the 5A regional quarterfinals. Those two teams could meet in the Elite 8 if both win their Sweet 16 contests.

In Class 4A, the San Elizario boys team will look to advance Saturday when they meet Decatur.
