Heavy winds sweep through borderland

On the far eastside winds made for low visibility on the roads.

Street signs swayed with the wind and palm trees held on for dear life.

In central, ABC-7 meteorologist Kyle Hansen recorded wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.

“I’ve had watery eyes and a runny nose and I’ve been coughing like crazy all week,” said Janis Hillis.

Hillis was sight seeing at Scenic Drive but concerned her home would receive wind damage.

“We’re just crossing our fingers and hoping everything is ok,” Hillis said.

But some like Edwin said they liked the refreshing winds.

“It’s a nice day. I like the wind honestly. It’s not humid, it’s fresh for the body, you can go for a run,” Edwin said.

In the northeast heavy winds made for some hold on to your hat weather and crews working on the Border West Express way tried to get as much done before the winds swept through but they eventually had to stop.

“You don’t want fatalities or people getting injured. They always enforce that and they always want people to go home to their families pretty at the end of the day,” said Johnathan, a local construction worker.
