SCOTUS hears Texas gerrymandering case Tuesday

The U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments as to whether or not gerrymandering in Texas led to minority discrimination.

The lower court ordered the districts in question to be redrawn for the 2018 elections, however SCOTUS blocked the orders last year.

The Abbott v. Perez case has been in courts for nearly a decade, stemming from 2010, the last time the Texas legislature conducted redistricting.

Originally, it appeared as two separate cases: one pertaining to congressional maps, the other to state house maps.

Lower courts previously ordered nine counties to redraw maps. Three in Dallas County, and two in Nueces, Bell and Tarrant counties.

Multiple reports suggest the Supreme Court to make a final ruling this summer ahead of the primary election.
