LCPD: Mother of alleged abuser suspected of throwing away evidence

The mother of a Las Cruces man accused of beating his pregnant, earlier this month, was arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence.

Las Cruces Police say Martha Taylor, 68, was seen taking a plastic bag and a broken broom handle from the investigated area to a nearby dumpster when officers arrived.

The investigation stemmed from alleged abuse that occurred May 10.

According to police, 25-year-old Timothy Trejo-Vigil severely beat his pregnant girlfriend at an apartment complex on Lester Avenue.

The plastic bag thrown by Taylor allegedly included bloody tissues and clothing and a black metal-like object.

The items were removed from the room where the victim was found critically injured, police say.

The victim suffered a broken jaw, broken nose and a large open wound to her forehead and was airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso.

Taylor is charged with a felony count of tampering with evidence and is being held without bond at the Doña Ana County Detention Center.

Trejo-Vigil was charged with a second-degree felony county of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery against a family member using a deadly weapon, two counts of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and one count of injury to a pregnant woman.
