CBP officers discover more than 200 pot bundles hidden in SUV
Customs Officers at the Presidio port of entry arrested a 58-year-old mean who allegedly tried to smuggle more than 100 pounds of Marijuana into the U.S.
Customs and Border Protection officers took the man into custody after a search of his vehicle revealed drugs concealed within the fuel tank, rear quarter panels, spare tire and dashboard of the suspects SUV.
On Friday June 1, 2018, the suspect, a United Sates citizen driving a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, entered the port of entry. A CBP officer assisting the suspect became suspicious and ordered the suspect to drive into secondary inspection.
During the inspection, drug-sniffing dogs alerted officers to the possible presence of narcotics in the vehicle. An x-ray exam of the suspect’s SUV allegedly revealed several anomalies in the rear quarter panels, fuel tank, spare tire, and dashboard of the vehicle. Officers discovered the 222 bundles totaling at 149 pounds while searching these anomalies, CBP officials said.
The suspect was arrested and turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement his agents for his failed smuggling attempt. He was not identified.
“This seizure reminds us a smuggler will use all available places in a vehicle to smuggle narcotics,” said Michael Neipert, CBP Presidio Port Director, ” Our officers are trained to do complete inspections in order to discover any and all narcotics possibly concealed within a conveyance.”
