Owner arrested after dog dies of starvation

Police arrested a man whose whose dog died of starvation last month.

Nicholas Ryan Monnier, 27, is charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals.

The El Paso Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Unit investigated reports of a very thin female German Shepherd Labrador mix in the 11000 block of War Feather.

Investigators said officers with Animal Services warned Monnier on April 2 the dog named “Midnight” needed veterinary care. However, Monnier contacted and notified Animal Services the canine was dead on April 5, police said.

Police secured an arrest warrant for Monnier after Animal Services determined “Midnight” died as a result of starvation.

Monnier was arrested May 21 and booked into the El Paso County Jail with bond set at $3,000.
