Details in Martens murder case revealed

The prosecutor overseeing the murder case of Victoria Martens is giving more insight into what led to the dropping of murder and rape charges against the Michelle Martens, the mother of the 10-year-old girl who was found dismembered and burned in an Albuquerque apartment in 2016.

The Albuquerque Journal newspaper reported that the Bernalillo District Attorney told the paper’s reporters and editors that the case “went off the rails almost immediately” after Michelle Martens made “conflicting and false statements” to police.

Raul Torrez also told the Journal that not a lot of follow-up testing was done on evidence that was collected because in part, “everyone believed her admissions.”
