Debate continues over when to hold debates between O’Rourke, Cruz

Weeks after the request by the campaign for Beto O’Rourke to hold debates ahead of the midterm election, the debate over how those debates should work continues between O’Rourke and Sen. Ted Cruz.

According to the Corpus Christi Caller Times, the Cruz campaign announced that the first debate would be on August 31 in Dallas.

The O’Rourke campaign claims it never agreed to that date.

ABC-7 spoke with O’Rourke about the debate disagreement and the Cruz campaign’s proposal to hold them on Friday nights. O’Rourke is opposed to holding debates on Friday.

“(This is) the same state that celebrates ‘Friday Night Lights,’ and has so many families engaged in these football games,” O’Rourke explained. “I want to work out these details with the senator. But we will not have terms dictated to us.”

The Caller Times says O’Rourke’s campaign wants to continue to negotiate the dates for the debates.

ABC-7 will have the details once the schedule is finalized.
