Woman rescued from Franklin Mountains after fracturing ankle

A morning hike up the Franklin Mountains turned into a scary situation for one El Paso woman.

It happened Thursday at around 10 a.m. as the woman was hiking up the Ron Coleman Trail.

The woman was hiking alone when at some point during her hike she slipped and fell, fracturing her ankle.

The woman called 911 using her cell phone and also called her husband to let him know what had happened.

Because of the terrain of where the woman was located the fire department’s COMSAR team was unable carry her down the mountain, so CBP’s, Air and Marine Operations unit was called in to help.

A helicopter that belonged to the El Paso Air Branch of CBP’s, Air and Marine Operations was used tio get the woman down the mountain.

The woman was put on a stretcher that was attached to the helicopter and she was then flown down the mountain to the waiting ambulance below.

A spokesman with the El Paso Fire Department tells ABC-7 the woman was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition

Fire officials say you should always let someone know when you’re planning to go for a hike. especially if you’re going alone.

They also say you should always take your cell phone and make sure is fully charged.
