Master-planned community coming to fruition in Northwest El Paso

A master-planned community 10-years in the making is starting to come to fruition in Northwest El Paso.

Hunt Communities, along with its partners at Las Mansiones at Cimarron and El Paso Riverbend Development, partnered to build the high-end apartments and retails space centered around a new community.

Justin Chapman, president of Hunt Companies, told ABC-7 the company started with land acquisitions, followed by construction of roadways. “We build roadways and we build parks and we build lots and we prepare commercial sites and then we sell that to apartment developers, builders and retailers,” Chapman said.

The Los Mansiones at Cimarron complex is one component of the residential living. Jason Cullers, the project manager, said the properties on the luxury-end are something new for the community.

196 units are planned, ranging from one to three bedrooms. Basic amenities, like a pool, fitness center and dog park are included, in addition to extras like a parking garage. The developers told ABC-7 they are well aware of the desire to protect open space, so they have set aside a three-acre park and a network of trails.

Cullers said two apartment buildings are opening within the next weeks and are expected to be leased soon. Steps from the apartments, a new retail complex is underway. Spaces are constructed, and developers are working to fill them.

Will Harvey, with EP Riverbend Development, told ABC-7 he wants to attract “unique El Paso-grown businesses.” The company is also behind the retail spaces near Doniphan and Sunset, where the famous El Paso postcard mural is located.

Artwork and pergolas with lush vegetation are also in the works at the Canyons at Cimarron development. “Eventually, it’s going to have a real nice outdoors feel. Paso has great weather and it’s a shame that we don’t take more advantage of it,” said Chapman.
