New poll gives insight into tight New Mexico races, Gov. Martinez popularity

Still months from the November election, a new poll shows the race for New Mexico governor is tight.

According to Emerson College, Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham holds a two-point lead over Republican Steve Pearce at 42 percent to 40 percent respectively, within the margin of error. The poll tallies 18 percent of undecided voters.

Another poll by the college says former Gov. Gary Johnson is “the top competition” against U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich in the U.S. Senate Race. Johnson officially entered the race last week.

Emerson also found out-going Gov. Susana Martinez’s popularity is decreasing. Just 30 percent of voters in the poll say they approve of her job performance, while 47 percent disapprove.
