Pebble Hills cruises past El Dorado in opener
The Pebble Hills football team looked unstoppable in their opener Thursday night at the SAC against El Dorado, winning by a final of 44-13.
It was the first local game this season in Texas, but it was virtually over in the first quarter.
The Spartans scored three touchdowns in the opening quarter to take a 21-0 lead.
Running back Caleb Gerber nearly ran for 200 yards in the first half alone, and the Spartans showed off a capable passing attack in addition to Gerber’s talents running the ball.
The Spartans would eventually lead 44-0 in the third quarter before El Dorado managed a couple of scores to make the final look a bit more respectable.
Although the two teams are no longer in the same classification (El Dorado dropped from 6A to 5A), the Spartans were eager to erase the memory of last year’s game. Pebble Hills lost a tough 49-44 contest at the end of the regular season in 2017 at the hands of the Aztecs.
The Spartans have a date with Midland in week two, while the Aztecs will meet Coronado.
