UTEP Fires Head Soccer Coach Kevin Cross after 21 years of dedication

UTEP decided today to fire head soccer coach, Kevin Cross. The university said this, “He built a regionally competitive program. As we look to take the next step and contend for conference championships, we felt like it was best to move in a new direction. We wish Kevin well in his future endeavors.”

We went to the teams locker room and spoke with Athletic Director Jim Senter and the players today but they had no comment at this time.

Coach Cross had been with the team for 21 years and had the fourth-most tenured run by a miner head coach..

He was 40th, nationally for winningest active coaches in NCAA division one soccer.

He is one of five Miner coaches in UTEP Athletics history across the board to have piled up at least 200 career wins at the school.

The Miners averaged 12 wins while appearing in three conference title games and one NCAA tournament in 2005 where they beat the University of Texas and went to the second round under Cross.

This is what coach had to say earlier today. “The reason they gave me was they were not competitive enough. Its their decision who they want as their soccer coach. I felt like we had been highly competitive.”
