EPPD: Man robbed victim at gunpoint while selling cellphone

El Paso police have arrested a man following an alleged armed robbery that occurred during an online sale arrangement between the suspect and the victim.

18 year-old Tyler Selles was arrested on one count of robbery after police say he was the suspect of a robbery call at the 1000 block of Cliff on Tuesday, December 4.

According to police, units were notified after Selles allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint who was responding to a post on “Letgo” with the intention of buying a cellphone from the suspect.

Police say Selles met the victim at the victim’s residence, where payment was made to Selles for the cellphone in the posting. However, after the exchange, Selles allegedly pulled out a gun and demanded the victim give him back the phone.

Selles was arrested hours later in Northeast El Paso when police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, allegedly driven by Selles, and discovered a handgun and a cellphone from a similar robbery the previous day.

Selles has been booked into El Paso County Detention Facility under one count of robbery and two criminal warrants for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. The robbery charge comes with a bond of $40,000, while the control substance bonds are placed at $10,000.

Police have not released a mugshot of Selles. Additional charges are pending.
