NMSU inks baseball coach Brian Green to new deal through 2022
NMSU baseball coach Brian Green has signed a new deal with the school designed to keep him in Las Cruces through the 2022 season.
Green, who has been the head coach at NMSU since the 2015 season, led the Aggies to 40 wins last year and a WAC Tournament title.
That marked just the second time in program history that the Aggies have recorded at least 40 wins and reached an NCAA Regional.
In just the last three seasons, 10 Aggies have turned pro including three players who were picked in the first six rounds of the MLB Draft.
“I’d like to personally thank Chancellor Arvizu and Chief of Staff Martinez for teaming with Mario Moccia and Braun Cartwright to honor me and Becki with a four-year extension,” Green said in a statement. “I’d also like to thank the members of the community whom have invested in the Green family and this coaching staff to continue to build this program into the winner we all know it can and will continue to be. Aggie Up!”
After winning just 11 games in his first season with the team, Green engineered a turnaround that has led to the Aggies winning at least 36 games each of the past three years.
“Signing Coach Green to a new contract is a tremendous moment for our baseball program,” said New Mexico State Director of Athletics Mario Moccia. “Brian is an alum, a tireless worker and he has completely changed the program in his time as skipper. From an 11-win inaugural season to 36, 37 and 40 with a WAC Tournament berth and an NCAA Regional appearance is a phenomenal achievement. “
Financial details of the deal were not released as of Monday.
