85th Annual Sun Bowl brings thousands to the Sun City
The Stanford Cardinal and Pittsburgh Panthers put on a great show for the 40,680 fans that were in attendance for the game.
El Paso hosting both teams, and their fans all week.
This morning tailgaters were out early, and by time kick off rolled around at noon, people were already having a good time.
The stadium was filled with energy and excitement. Fans packed the house, ABC 7 saw people from Pittsburgh and Stanford in El Paso to cheer on their favorite team.
One fan telling ABC-7, “We traveled here as a family we’ve been here for six days and it’s been wonderful.”
Others came from the West Coast. “We came from the Bay area in San Francisco, To see our team and support Stanford, I’ve been going to games since 1971, I never miss a game, I gotta be here.”
One youngster said he loves Stanford and thinks they have a great coach. He said, “David Shaw is just a really good coach and he’s not very prideful.” Stanford is known to have one of the best bands in the country, and they were showcasing their talents, but Pittsburgh brought a band of there own, matching the intensity from the Cardinal’s side of the field.
Both teams came to play, but only one team walked away from the Sun Bowl a winner. Stanford. Cardinal fans were happy, Pittsburgh fans pretty disappointed, but everyone that spoke to ABC 7 said that they had a great time at the Sun Bowl and in the City of El Paso.
