State troopers involved in foot pursuit help EPPD capture man who allegedly stole ambulance

State troopers involved in a foot pursuit came across a car chase involving El Paso Police officers and a suspect who allegedly stole a hospital ambulance. The troopers eventually disabled the ambulance and helped police arrest the suspect.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper was responding to assist another trooper involved in a foot pursuit on Transmountain Road at approximately 5 p.m. Monday. Officials said a driver ran away from a state trooper during a traffic stop.

While a second state trooper responded to the foot pursuit, officers with the El Paso Police Department were attempting to stop an ambulance reported stolen from the Hospital of Providence’s Transmountain Campus.

Initially, state police officials said, the description of the driver who fled from the traffic stop matched the description of the driver who allegedly stole the ambulance.

When one of the state troopers noticed the driver of the stolen ambulance was driving head on into traffic, the trooper disabled the ambulance with his weapon.

The car chase involving the stolen ambulance came to an end in the 6300 block of Doniphan, state police officials said.

Investigators determined the man driving the stolen ambulance was not the same suspect who fled on foot from the traffic stop.

State police said the driver of the stolen ambulance was identified as 27-year-old Tevyn Tarivon Reed, of Seminole, Texas.

El Paso Police charged Reed with theft of property, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and for failing to identify himself.

Officials said no injuries were reported during the car chase.

El Paso Police said Reed was driving the ambulance with the emergency lights on. He was jailed on bonds totaling $43,000.
