Who is Congresswoman Escobar’s guest for President Trump’s State of the Union?
Texas Congresswoman Veronica Escobar, (D-District 16), has invited Senaida Navar, a Dreamer from El Paso, to be her guest at President Trump’s State of the Union address.
Navar is currently an adjunct instructor at the University of Texas at El Paso and an immigrant rights advocate fighting to keep families together.
Escobar plans to hold a Facebook live with Navar ahead of the president’s speech Tuesday. The Facebook live is scheduled to begin at 2:15 p.m.
“Senaida is the epitome of the American Dream,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “She has dedicated her life to advancing immigrant rights and preparing our next generation of leaders, all while experiencing family separation created by our broken immigration system and uncertainty as a DACA recipient.”
Escobar said Dreamers are part of the “rich and beautiful fabric of our nation.” The freshman congresswoman said Congress must work to provide Dreamers with permanent protections.
“As President Trump continues promoting a false narrative about El Paso – a safe border community – and threatening to cause another harmful government shutdown, tomorrow he will be confronted by the realities and faces of our border: a generous hard-working community that has suffered the consequences of his hateful and senseless policies,” said Escobar.
