Sheriff’s Office identifies teenager and man killed in Horizon Blvd. wreck
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two people killed in a wreck late Wednesday as 16-year-old Penelope Jauregui and 30-year-old Hugo Davalos.
“The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a Hyundai Veloster was traveling southbound on Horizon when the driver disregarded the red light at the intersection of Horizon and Bowdoin St,” a sheriff’s office spokeswoman said. “The Veloster struck a Nissan Sentra traveling eastbound on Bowdoin St.”
Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Leslie Antunez identified Jauregui and Davalos as “the two drivers,” but could not clarify who was driving the Veloster or who was driving the Sentra.
A friend of Jauregui told ABC-7 Jauregui was the driver of the Nissan Sentra. A relative of Davalos told ABC-7 Davalos was the driver of the Hyundai Veloster. This information has not been officially confirmed by authorities.
The crash happened at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday night at Horizon Boulevard and Bowdoin Drive, which is near Horizon City.
Students at Eastlake High School told ABC-7 their principal announced a student died and several other students were injured in the wreck late Wednesday evening.
A spokesman with the Socorro Independent School District confirmed to ABC-7 several district students were injured in the wreck, but would not confirm whether one of the students died. The district spokesman did confirm grief counselors were on campus to meet with students coping with the loss.
Students at Eastlake described a very somber and emotional atmosphere inside the school as friends and relatives of the teens involved in the crash learned of the news.
