Police identify man killed in crash on I-10 West at Artcraft

UPDATE: Police have identified the man killed in a fatal crash on Interstate 10 westbound at Artcraft Saturday morning.

Police said 46-year-old Demond Williams died after he was ejected from his motorcycle as he was driving on I-10 West.

The investigation revealed that at around 2 a.m. Saturday, Williams was driving his 2011 Suzuki motorcycle behind a sedan at a high speed.

Police said Williams then rear-ended the back of the sedan and was ejected from his motorcycle. His motorcycle then veered onto incoming traffic on I-10 East.

The crash shut down I-10 in both direction for some time.

Special Traffic Investigators were called to the scene. They said Williams died at the scene from the injuries he sustained.

STI also said Williams was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident and speed was a factor in the crash.

According to police, this is the sixth traffic fatality of 2019, compared to 10 in 2018.

In 2018, the El Paso Police Department recorded 70 traffic fatalities.
