EPPD releases arrest photo of suspect in deadly Central EP stabbing

Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit identified the man stabbed and killed in Central El Paso as 21-year-old Carlos Alberto Elias.

Police said the suspect turned himself in late Wednesdy night and was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Nikko Edwardo Mata, 28, was charged with Murder and booked on a $2-million bond.

The stabbing was reported at 8:37 p.m. onFebruary 19, 2019 at 1019 Nevada.

Police officers responding to the stabbing call found Elias suffering from stab wounds.

The man was transported to University Medical Center, where he died, police said.

“An investigation revealed persons inside the residence were using drugs when an argument occurred and the victim was stabbed,” police said.

Police did not say whether a suspect is in custody.
