UTEP student beats Lockheed Martin Challenge Box

A large box at UTEP gave students a chance to get a job in the field of space sciences.

It’s called the Lockheed Martin Challenge Box.

Lockheed Martin helps develop satellites and other spacecraft.

The box is used as a recruiting tool geared toward students majoring in engineering, math and other sciences.

Anyone could get inside the box after answering one of three questions correctly.

The box offers a 360 degree experience that displays space and the possibilities of STEM careers.

But answering the three questions is not it. There was also a fourth one, which was the most difficult.

UTEP student Mario Guerra, a senior electrical engineering major, was able to solve them all. Lockheed Martin posted this video about when it happened.

Beating the challenge gained him an automatic letter of intent to hire for a job at Lockheed Martin.

The box was at UTEP for three days.

It was only the second campus to have the challenge. The first one was VA Tech.

UTEP was chosen because Lockheed Martin is trying to hire Hispanics and women for engineering jobs. The company said UTEP is among the top schools for Hispanic engineer talent.

The company said it’s trying to recruit more Hispanics and women for engineering jobs.

UTEP has about 25,000 students. About 80 percent are Hispanic, according to the school’s website.
