Detectives arrest 4 in connection to drive-by shooting that wounded 2 brothers

Investigators with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department arrested four suspects in connection to a drive-by shooting that injured two teenaged brothers in Anthony, New Mexico Tuesday night.

The victims, ages 18 and 14, were in their home in the 400 block of Tierra Dorada when a gray four-door car drove up in front of the residence. The brothers told detectives they heard honking and whistling coming from outside the home. The older brother said he went outside to see what the noise was, and was followed by his younger brother.

When the teenagers went outside, a teenager later identified as 16-year-old David Hidalgo fired a 12-gauge shotgun from the vehicle, striking the brothers, investigators said.

The investigators said the older brother sustained serious injuries to his torso and legs. The younger brother was injured in the leg. Both teenagers were transported to an El Paso-area hospital for treatment.

Detectives arrested Hidalgo, along with 18-year-old Vanessa Sosa Martinez, 18 the alleged getaway driver.

The owner of the car used in the drive-by, 21-year-old Richard Garcia, was allegedly with the group during the drive-by shooting, investigators said.

Another juvenile allegedly in the vehicle, 17-year-old Oscar Guardian, was also taken into custody.

Sheriff’s department officials said all four suspects are currently jailed at the Doña Ana County Detention Center where they are being held without bond.

Guardian is charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit a second-degree felony. The other three are charged with shooting at or from a motor vehicle causing great bodily harm, shooting at a dwelling causing great bodily harm, two counts of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, and three counts of conspiracy to commit a second-degree felony.
