Deadly shooting inside northeast El Paso apartment called ‘self-defense’ by police

Police have concluded that a deadly shooting Wednesday night at the Sand Stone Ranch Apartment complex in northeast El Paso was a case of self-defense.

In a statement issued Friday, investigators said the victim, 22-year old Jason Lindsay, was shot and killed after forcing his way into an apartment to commit an assault.

Police said the resident of that apartment, 21-year old Jonathan Lauture, “shot and killed Lindsay in self-defense inside the apartment.”

Officers found the fatally-wounded Lindsay when they responded to a shots-fired call just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at the apartment complex is located in the 11200 block of Sean Haggerty near U.S. 54.

Police initially took Lauture into custody that night before determining that the shooting was an act of self-defense.
