Man shot, wounded during marijuana robbery at east El Paso apartment complex

A man was injured after being shot during what police described as drug robbery at an east El Paso apartment complex Thursday night.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Celina Plaza Apartments in the 8500 block of Viscount Boulevard.

The victim, identified by police as Jacob Rueda, was taken to Del Sol Medical Center with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators on Friday said the shooting happened when Rueda and another man were walking toward Rueda’s car carrying a backpack containing marijuana. Two other men armed with guns confronted the pair and shot Rueda in the leg.

Police said the gunmen escaped.with the backpack and remained on the loose Friday.

Officers made an unrelated arrest of man on outstanding warrants Thursday night at the apartment complex while investigating the shooting.
