El Paso’s new Border West Expressway opens to motorists
Drivers now have another route to avoid some of the traffic snarls in west El Paso.
The Border West Expressway officially opened Thursday afternoon.
The 7.4 mile-long expressway represents the completion of Loop 375.
It stretches from Racetrack Drive at Doniphan Road to a mile east of Park Street downtown.
One unique feature of the expressway is the SPUI, or ‘single-point urban interchange’ located on Executive Center.
The SPUI is designed to move traffic in multiple directions in a concentrated area.
The Border West Expressway is also a toll road, but no tolls will be charged for a brief time.
