It's been six months since a lone gunman killed 22 innocent lives at the Cielo Vista Walmart killing Aug. 3.

Abc-7 spoke with Jacklin Luna, the niece of Tury Benavides, a sun metro bus driver and army veteran who was killed that tragic day. Luna said it's been a rollercoaster of emotions.

"Some days it's pretty emotional and some days it's not because you try to move on in a positive way because he wouldn't have wanted us to be sad all the time," said Luna.

Benavides' other niece told ABC-7 said, "He was a generous man. He had a heart of gold. His loss was tragic and we still mourn today, but his heart, his spirit and his memory lives on within us."

Both nieces are grateful for the support the borderland has shown, not only for their family, but for the other victims.

Several people showed their support for the victims Monday by visiting the Grand Candela.

"I see it and it's an instant reminder of peace," said Luna.

Tuesday, The Texas Medical Association is planning to honor the first responders and doctors who helped the victims.

Wednesday, rosaries blessed by the pop will be given to the families of the victims.
