Uvalde CISD Police Chief placed on administrative leave

UVALDE, Texas - The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Chief Pete Arrendondo has been placed on administrative leave.

Superintendent Dr. Hall Harrell announced on Wednesday that the decision had been made after receiving a "lack of clarity" from the investigations into the Robb Elementary shooting, as well as "unknown timing" from when the release of information from the investigations will occur.

She added that Lieutenant Mike Hernandez will take over as UCISD Chief of Police, and that they are going to "continue to seek qualified candidates to join [their] police department" as the new school year approaches.

Arrendondo has been widely criticized for his repsonse during the Robb Elementary shooting; most recently being accused of putting "officers' lives before children's."
