WATCH: Biden calls for 3-month suspension of gas tax

EL PASO, Texas --President Joe Biden is set to call on Congress to suspend federal gasoline and diesel taxes until the end of September.

The move is to help provide relief to American consumers.

Biden is also set to call on states to remove their own taxes on gas and diesel. He is also asking oil refining companies to increase their capacity.

Some El Pasoans at the pump we're unimpressed with the president's call for a 3-month gas tax suspension.

"The next month or when it runs out the gas prices are just going straight back up again," said Shivahn Guerra.

Many of them tell me more needs to be done.

"It's just ridiculous," said Gerome Griffin "I don't think a tax break is gonna help".

"We need some meaningful change that's gonna last longer than a month or so I don't think the tax is gonna mean anything," said Shivahn Guerra.

Others told me they're hopeful.

"I'm not filling up, I'm just getting enough so it can get me through," said Rocio Castaneda "I try to use the car as less as i can.... so it would definitely help us all anything, anything can help at this point."

"It would provide 18.4cts of immediate tax relief (24 cents for diesel). So that would certainly provide some relief from high gasoline prices. However, it does nothing from a supply standpoint, which is what we really need now. It also keeps demand elevated," said OPIS Oil analyst Denton Cinguergrana.
