Greek Orthodox Church Destroyed in September 11th Attacks, Reopens

NEW YORK, NY--

The Greek orthodox church destroyed in the September 11th terror attacks more than two decades ago has reopened.

More than 15-hundred people attended the consecration ceremony Monday at saint Nicholas Greek orthodox church in lower Manhattan.

Church leaders said they picked July fourth for the consecration so the shrine will be tied to the birth of America forever.

The ceremony included the sealing of Saint Nicholas relics in the altar table.

The bishop anointed the walls, doors, and icons of the church.

It will be open to the public later this summer.

Regular prayer services will take place starting in the fall.
