EL PASO, Texas - At this point, we are sounding like broken records, but it sure is hot out there! Not very many people like triple-digit heat, and that's what we've been dealing with for the past several days. ABC-7 Meteorologists often recommend wearing light-colored clothing on sunny and hot weather days to keep your body cool. But does that recommendation hold true for car colors? What about their interiors?

Now, we finally have the results. After a half cloudy, half sunny day, with temperatures reaching the upper 90s and low 100s, we figured out what the hottest color of cars were and the "coolest" colors were. We saw exterior car color temperatures up to 170 degrees! The hottest cars were black, dark grey, and blue with temperatures from 170-160 degrees. The coolest cars were silver, white, and gold with temperatures ranging from 126-150 degrees.

As far as interiors, we were able to measure two colors of leather and two fabric colors. The fabric colors were the "coolest" with grey fabric at 122 degrees and black fabric at 142 degrees. The leather colors were brown at 143 degrees and black at 149 degrees.

Ultimately, if you are trying to make your next car purchase and are looking for the coolest exterior and interior colors, go for the lighter ones! Silver, white and gold as well as lighter color fabrics are your best bet.
