Over 260 NMSU students find out their opportunity scholarships have been taken away
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico- 262 NMSU students received an email stating that their New Mexico State Opportunity Scholarships have been taken away.
Aggie Ana Obregon emailed the station to say she lost her scholarship and was very confused.
“I qualified for the scholarship and they gave it to me and then now that school has started they came and take it away and said we were not eligible,” Obregon told ABC-7.
NMSU SpokesPerson, Justin Bannister explained the scholarship is new and that the qualifications may have confused some Aggie Academic Advisors.
Bannister explained to ABC-7 that in order to qualify for the scholarship you must have not already accumulated over 160 credit hours.
That was the problem for Obregon who already has her degree in hotel management.
She was frustrated with her situation saying, “What can I do? Just do without it I guess? But I don’t think thats right! They should check all that before giving away money and then yanking it back.”
Bannister highly recommended that all of the students who received the email saying the scholarship was taken away to appeal.
