Cotton candy vendor looks back at over 30 sweet years in the borderland

JUAREZ, Chihuahua -- Roman Tellez was born and raised in Juarez, famous for selling cotton candy at different events. He has been in this business for over 30 years. Tellez says he entered the business when he inherited it from his grandfather.

ABC-7 got the chance to walk with Tellez in Downtown Juarez and talk about his experiences over the years. We asked him what had been his best memory or experience.

"One of my best experiences is when los Juarenses nicknamed me 'El Yuri,' having taken that nickname that is a very good experience in my career," Tellez said.

"Yuri" is a Mexican singer, actress and television host that is characterized to be blonde. After he dyed his hair, Juarenses gave him the new nickname.

"El Yuri" is well known in Juarez for his cotton candy and attending events like soccer games, baseball games, parks and others.

He has worked in El Paso, too, he thinks it's amazing to be recognized in another country, and he feels proud of what he has done over the years.
