Plans for a children’s museum in Las Cruces
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico(KVIA) — Plans are in the works for a state-of-the-art children’s museum in Doña Ana County.
It will be a 44-ft, toy hauler RV that's being retrofitted into a mobile museum. It will serve all of Doña Ana County, including rural areas. The plan is to have the museum operational by the end of the year.
The non-profit Ngage New Mexico is developing the museum using grant funding, as well as federal funding through the work of Senator Martin Heinrich. There were also individual donations.
Ngage said the museum will be divided into 3 areas, including a workshop for STEM activities. There will also be an upper area for sensory play, as well as a separate space for family activities.
And as a completely separate project, Ngage said it's also partnering with the city of Las Cruces to look into building a brick and mortar children's museum. Plans for that museum are still in their infancy.
