Life in prison sentence for college teen who shot, killed Texas Tech police officer from El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The college teenager who shot and killed a Texas Tech police officer from El Paso in 2017 was sentenced to life without parole Friday, according to East's widow, Carmen East.

Hollis Daniels, now 24, was 19-years-old when he shot and killed officer Floyd East, an El Pasoan, during a traffic stop in Lubbock on October 9, 2017.

"To the public in general every action you take in anger and fear has a consequence. Please make your actions be peaceful and meaningful for your own peace of mind, your actions affect everyone. This and many other tragedies are examples of this," said Carmen East, "To the Daniels family, my condolences. Nobody wins, we all grieve, we all go on trying to find some peace."

Carmen East set up a foundation in honor of her late husband to help families of law enforcement officers impacted by the deaths of their family members to violence. She also hosts Blue Space retreats to help law enforcement officers with mental health and coping with the hardships of their job.

"Floyd’s Foundation Texas635 will always be here to assist officers with their mental wellness," said Carmen East, "Peace officers need to maintain a peaceful mindset."
