Chamizal park in Juarez has 400 dying trees, 32 fell after last weekend’s storm

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) -- The historic Chamizal park in Juarez suffered damage during Sunday's strong winds, 32 trees fell down.

The city's department of parks and gardens told ABC-7, currently, the park has 400 dry trees among the 13-14 thousand that are in the park. Now officials are working to restore the park.

"El Chamizal" is now recovering from the weekend's storm.

Six out of those 32 trees were healthy, now the department is working with city funds to alleviate the demand and amount of work they have in the park.

The city started to pick up those fallen trees on Monday, but the department's Director says it's a hard task.

Now, the Juarez department of parks and gardens is waiting for heavy machinery to keep working. Their plan is to take away the estimated 400 dying trees in the park.

They are also looking for volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, you need to contact the "Dirección de Parques y Jardines Cd. Juarez" on its social media or here.
