Transportation officials call for safe driving in work zones

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - It is National Work Zone Awareness Week, and Transportation officials in El Paso want to remind drivers to be mindful while driving in work zones.

They say too many people exceed the speed limit and often aren't paying attention while encountering work zones on our roads.

They want drivers to slow down, obey the speed limit, put down their cell phones and look out for workers on the road.

According to TxDOT, despite a 16% decrease in traffic fatalities in Texas work zones last year, 205 still lost their lives in work zone traffic crashes. Another 788 were seriously injured.
