CHAPARRAL, New Mexico (KVIA) -- The Chaparral Middle School robotics team is heading to a national-level competition for the 6th year in a row! The Knights will head to San Diego June 26 to 29 to compete against students from across the country, according to teacher Rina Viramontes.

On April 26, the team won four 1st place awards at the MESA National Engineering Design Competition. The top Chaparral Middle team will represent the entire state of New Mexico at the June competition.

In the MESA design competition, the team was tasked with solving an inequity in the Chaparral community by using coding. The students created prototypes, presented them to the judges alongside a marketing pitch and a technical interview. The teams were also required to produce a project brief and an academic poster.
