One person taken to the hospital after getting lost in Sunland Park desert

SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico (KVIA)- According to Sunland Park Fire officials, one person was transported to the hospital with life-threatening heat related injuries after getting lost in the desert.

It happened in the desert off Tierra Madre CT. at around 7:52 pm Tuesday.

Fire officials said a couple, male and female in their early 30's, called for assistance after getting lost.

Sunland Park fire found the couple using GPS coordinates given by cell phone. The female was severely dehydrated with possible heat stroke symptoms. The male had no injuries.

Sunland Park Fire Chief, Daniel Medrano, told ABC-7 the calls for search and rescue in the general desert area west of Sunland Park has significantly gone up over the past month.
